Since December 2024, I’ve undertaken a research project studying eco-friendly and sustainable ways of making art. It started with my university school’s Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD), where I presented research on how to make lake pigments and demonstrated its effectiveness in a series of sustainable watercolor pieces.

These pieces were based off of my study abroad program at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, where I’m part-time pursuing a MA in creative writing. Attending this program, and spending two weeks in Wales in 2023 and 2024 made me approach painting landscapes differently, and began my interest in creating sustainable art in harmony with the environment.

Since then, I’ve received an Undergraduate Research Award grant to study eco-friendly and sustainable art making further. I’m currently studying how to spin and dye wool for thread, tapestry, and quilt-making, as well as turning pigment into other forms of paint/art supplies, such as oil pastels, acrylic paint, pigment sticks, etc.
